This research is justified by the need to analyze effects of the recent Brazilian housing policy (between the years 2009 and 2014), placing it in the context of the availability of urban infrastructure for the new habitations. In view of this, the aim of this study was to discuss the relationship between the habitation provision and the urban environment in the Metropolitan Zone of Aracaju (SE). It was conducted a bibliographical and documental research and an analysis of secondary data, as well as the direct observation and elaboration of maps and cartograms. The results showed that the increase in production of habitations due to the programs and subsidies of the Federal Government, mainly in areas in which their effects are most evident, has not been accompanied by the necessary improvements in urban infrastructure which, in general, already was insufficient in the areas in which the projects were implanted.
