Abstract

Soil humidity and temperature are indicators in environmental studies to evaluate the quality of vegetation and the distribution of water in the soil, being considered fundamental in the ecosystem in predicting droughts, deficiencies and conservation of water resources and the mitigation of environmental impacts. The research aimed to compare the impacts of reduced humidity and increased soil temperature in relation to the structure and floristics of plants in the understory stratum of a dryland forest in the Caxiuanã National Forest, Pará. Two plots were delimited of 1 hectare each divided into 100 blocks of 10 x 10 meters, where all forms of plant life were marked and identified to the most specific level. Soil moisture data was collected at three depths: soil surface, 50 cm and 100 cm deep, and soil temperature at the surface, 20 cm and 50 cm deep. The analysis of floristic composition took place in 40 quadrats measuring 10 x 10 m, 20 in the control plot and 20 in the experimental plot. The difference in soil humidity and temperature, abundance of individuals and number of plant species between the blocks of the control and experimental plots were compared with the t test, and the normality of the data was tested with Shapiro-Wilk. It was concluded that the artificial water reduction induced in the experimental plot is causing a reduction in abundance, reduction and modification of species composition in the control plot.
