RESISTÊNCIA E REPRODUÇÃO CAMPONESA: luta por terra na região canavieira pernambucana
Abstract
Como resposta a crise gerada pelo modelo canavieiro capitalista, camponeses sem terra e trabalhadores rurais e urbanos da região canavieira pernambucana desenvolveram, através de movimentos sociais, uma ação social coletiva com a finalidade de conquistar terra para formar assentamentos e responder as suas necessidades de reprodução social. Este processo, caracterizado por conflitos sociais, em geral violentos, expressou toda uma capacidade de mobilização e resistência do campesinato para permanecer em terras improdutivas de engenhos e usinas falidas. Com isto, protagonizaram um processo de intensa mobilização social, nas duas décadas passadas, se constituindo como “sujeitos da reforma agrária”, que resultou na melhoria das condições de vida e na autoconfiança das famílias camponesas assentadas.
