PALAVRAS AFIADAS: MEMÓRIAS E REPRESENTAÇÕES AFRICANISTAS NA ESCRITA DE CAROLINA MARIA DE JESUS
Abstract
O presente artigo aborda as memórias e representações africanistas na escrita de Carolina Maria de Jesus (1914-1977), tendo por base teórica a “sociologia histórica’ de Florestan Fernandes (1920-1995). Florestan Fernandes começou a estudar as “relações raciais” no Brasil no mesmo contexto histórico em que Carolina Maria de Jesus se fixou numa favela de São Paulo, no final da década de 1940. Quando Carolina faleceu, no ano de 1977, Florestan Fernandes havia escrito, um ano antes, o seminal ensaio sobre a situação do negro (afro-brasileiro). A escrita de Carolina Maria de Jesus foi realizada a partir da favela, que ela mesma designou como o “quarto de despejo” da população negra e pobre da metrópole. A escrita científica de Florestan advém da “sala de visitas”, designada por Carolina como um lugar digno, onde se pode “ler todos os livros do mundo”. Uma escrita explicaria a outra? Em que sentido a narrativa caroliniana confirmaria as teses sociológicas de Florestan Fernandes? Ou seria o contrário? O ensaio trabalha com a hipótese de que as memórias e representações africanistas contidas nos “escritos orais” carolinianos corroboram a sociologia radical de Florestan Fernandes.
