JÚLIO BELLO: UM HOMEM VELHO FALA SOBRE AS VELHICES QUE VIU E VIVEU
Abstract
Inventada, no Brasil, enquanto os séculos XIX e XX ainda se misturavam, a experiência moderna da velhice não teria o rosto que acabou por assumir sem o concurso de uma série de práticas históricas, entre as quais a produção memorialística nordestina. Ali, naquelas páginas cheias de recordações e de avaliações do tempo, passado ou presente, corpos traduziam-se como envelhecidos e desde aí se punham a pensar (sobre) o mundo. Neste texto exploro a narrativa de um dos memorialistas nordestinos mais célebres, o pernambucano Júlio Celso de Albuquerque Bello (1873-1951), em busca de, nela, discernir o perfil de uma modalidade nova de se experimentar as idades, especialmente no que tangia ao que então passou a se nomear como a velhice.
