A PRESENÇA INDÍGENA NA CONSTITUIÇÃO DA CIDADE DE ÁGUAS BELAS, PERNAMBUCO.

Grande parte das cidades contemporâneas do interior de Pernambuco foi constituída através de fluxos populacionais variados de colonos, mas principalmente a partir das relações destes com índios aldeados. Na região em que hoje está situada a cidade de Águas Belas, no agreste pernambucano, podemos acompanhar as trocas vivenciadas entre índios e não-índios no seu estabelecimento e desenvolvimento durante o final do século XVIII e o XIX. O objetivo deste artigo é trazer uma discussão sobre a formação desta cidade, conferindo enfoque na participação indígena na vida cotidiana local por meio das relações de conflito e alianças estabelecidas com não-índios. Dessa forma, a análise do caso de uma cidade e de sua dinâmica social marcada pela presença indígena, contribui para o debate de novas questões sobre a formação do interior de Pernambuco.
