O saco de batatas colonial? Considerações sobre o uso do conceito de campesinato na historiografia do Brasil Colônia.
Abstract
O termo ou conceito campesinato tem se tornado corrente na historiografia sobre o Brasil colonial das duas últimas décadas, sobretudo no que se refere aos pequenos produtores. O artigo pretende discutir a adequação do conceito para caracterizar a produção em pequena escala no período colonial, lançando mão das principais referências teóricas, particularmente sociológicas. Para tanto, citamos alguns dos trabalhos mais relevantes da historiografia recente e aduzimos algumas informações a partir de nossa própria pesquisa sobre a produção de tabaco em Pernambuco.
