0 fenômeno do cangaço é estudado, neste artigo, na dimensão das representações elaboradas tanto pelas autoridades públicas e acadêmicas, quanta pela imprensa. A autora mostra como essas representações com metaforas corporais adquirem uma irnportância emblemática no debate, então travado, em torno da definição da modernidade da nação brasileira.
This article takes up the question of banditry and examines the representations of this phenomenon constructed by public authorities, academics and the press. The author demonstrates, through the use of corporeal metaphors, how these representations gained on emblematic importance in the debate which took place with regard to defining the modernity of the Brazilian nation.
