Esse trabalho tem por objetivo discorrer sobre os carnavais que ocorreram na cidade do Rio de Janeiro em meio à entrada do Brasil na Segunda Guerra Mundial. O período, marcado pelo clima bélico em questão, instaurou outras prioridades no cotidiano carioca, levando ao arrefecimento dessas festividades. Esse cenário, de quase inércia festiva, foi detalhado pela revista O Cruzeiro, periódico de ampla tiragem nacional, que discutiu quanto à viabilidade da realização desses carnavais em tempos de conflito. O recorte cronológico marca ainda mudanças relativas aos locais e aos protagonistas desses folguedos que, mesmo em face ao contexto bélico, insistiram em brincar os dias de Momo, o que possibilitou a criação de uma nova dinâmica festiva nesses carnavais de guerra.
This paper has the purpose to discuss the carnivals occurred at Rio de Janeiro during the Brazil´s participation in the World War II. The period, surrounded by a belic atmosphere, denoted other priorities in the carioca habits, making the festivities almost disappear. This scenario, of almost festive inertia, was described by O Cruzeiro, a magazine printed in national scale, which asked at their pages about the viability of realization of these carnivals in times of war. This period marks yet, changes related by the locals and actors of these folguedos which, although in a conflict time, insisted to play the days of Momo, creating a new festive dynamic in these war´s carnivals.
