O artigo aborda a produção de textos impressos pelos protestantes para e no Brasil ao longo do primeiro século desta atividade (a partir da década de 1830 em diante). Procurou-se identificar os responsáveis – indivíduos e instituições – por tais publicações, bem como as formas de financiamento e distribuição destes impressos. A partir destas informações, é possível apontar que havia um circuito de distribuição e circulação daqueles textos, que envolvia o Brasil e outros países. A partir da pesquisa e análise destas informações, percebeu-se uma tendência à nacionalização da produção e do financiamento das publicações, cuja iniciativa foi paulatinamente assumida pelos brasileiros que aderiram às denominações protestantes.
This article approaches Protestants’ printing press bound for and in Brazil during their first century of missionary work (from 1830s on). Its aim is identify who were in charge of such publications – whether individuals or institutions – and the way by which they were financed and distributed as well. After researching and analyzing such information, we may conclude that there was a tendency to nationalization of production and financing of those publications, whose entrepreneurship was gradually took on by the Brazilians who engaged in Protestant cults.
