Teatro da Aclamação: ritualidade e territorialização na criação das vilas de índios da antiga Capitania de Porto Seguro (1764/1772). // Theater of the Claim: rituality and territorialization in the creation of the villages of indians of the former Captain of Porto Seguro (1764/1772).

Abstract

Este texto analisa o ritual de aclamação das vilas de índios criadas na antiga Capitania de Porto Seguro na segunda metade do século XVIII. Tomando de empréstimo a ideia thompsoniana de teatralização do exercício do poder, a abordagem aqui apresentada procura demonstrar como os atos de fundações das novas vilas manifestavam não apenas o poder régio absolutista, mas também todos os princípios, valores e instituições que buscavam legitimar e garantir a reprodução do dominium português sobre um território inserido no quadro do Antigo Sistema Colonial. Se apresentando enquanto uma tradição reinventada, estes ritos de instituição se adaptaram a um público majoritariamente indígena, encarnando o objetivo de demarcar uma fronteira entre um espaço supostamente selvagem e outro hipoteticamente civilizado.

This paper examines the ritual acclamation of Indian villages created in the former Captaincy of Porto Seguro in the second half of the eighteenth century. Borrowing the idea thompsoniana dramatization of the exercise of power, the approach presented here seeks to demonstrate how the acts of foundations of new villages demonstrating not only the absolute royal power, but also all the principles, values and institutions that sought to legitimize and ensure dominium playback on a Portuguese territory inserted under the Old Colonial System. Performing while a reinvented tradition, these rites of institution adapted to an audience primarily indigenous, embodying the purpose of demarcating a boundary between an area supposedly savage and civilized another hypothetically.
