Recife: notes about the genesis of a cultural field

Regard to the discussion of artistic modernity in Brazil, the article presents a panel of intellectual and cultural debates in Recife (1920-50), in order to give weight to the power lines, literate sociability, as well as the spaces of recognition and consecration the artistic/intellectual making that resulted in a specific dynamic to the cultural field of the city. Therefore, give special attention to the actions of a local theater group (TEP – Pernambuco Students’s Theatre) and their contribution to the renewal of artistic and intellectual practices.
