Abstract
... Os primeiros elementos do Brasil, de toda a vocação para que fui chamado, a de estudar a história do Brasil, aprendi estudando Pernambuco, e alguma coisa escrevi, com fervor, sobre os holandeses aqui, sobre 1817, sobre Frei Caneca, e outros heróis desta terra de tanta história e de tanta gente ilustrada nas virtudes, nas letras, nas armas, nas vitórias e derrotas... Discurso do Professor José Honório Rodrigues na Sessão do Conselho Universitário da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, realizada no dia 27/11/80, em que lhe foi outorgado o título de doutor "Honoris Causa".
