Porto Alegre's intendence and water control in the First Republic

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the history of water supply in the city of Porto Alegre, during the First Republic. The focus of the article was directed to strategies and actions that the municipal government developed during the creation and expansion of the public service of water supply in the respective city. All these strategies and actions, researched the documentary sources, provides insight into how the municipality sought to control the water supply articulating projects and engineering works with laws, regulations and administrative procedures.
