A VISITA DE TOLLENARE AOS CARMELITAS DESCALÇOS/TERÉSIOS DE OLINDA.
Abstract
A propósito da visita de L. F. de Tollenare aos Carmelitas Descalços/Terésios, de Olinda, ocasião em que debateu-se a Revolução Francesa, procura-se abordar o tema da transição sócio-política do Absolutismo para o Liberalismo, quando ocorre a supressão de ordens religiosas. A expulsão dos Carmelitas Descalços do Convento do Desterro/Sta. Teresa de Olinda, ocorreu em 1823, no contexto dos movimentos liberais que antecederam a Confederação do Equador. Alegava-se, para sua expulsão, que os religiosos eram súditos de Portugal (e, portanto, absolutistas), sendo, também, contrários à independência brasileira. O término desse processo viria com a extinção dessa ordem religi-osa no Brasil pela regência do Império em 1831.Downloads
