Este artigo analisa aspectos da história da cidade de Campo Grande, atual capital política do Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, no decorrer da segunda metade do século XX. Problematiza-se o cotidiano da cidade por meio da análise de documentos impressos produzidos pela imprensa local, enfocando-se, em particular, o espaço público da urbe e a (falta de) higiene citadina.
A (un)civilized city: elite, common people and urban living in Campo Grande (in the 60’s and 70’s). This article discusses aspects of the history of the city of Campo Grande, current political capital of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, during the second half of the 20th century. The everyday of the city is problematized through a review of printed documents produced by the local press, focusing, in particular, the public space of the city and the (lack of) hygiene in the city.
