As filosofias da história, até hoje, não conseguiram explicar as transformações
e, ao mesmo tempo, ajustá-las a um sistema interpretativo aplicável ao conjunto da história conhecida. A história concreta, diz Helene Vedrine, abre-se para a diversidade, para o imprevisto, para as mutações bruscas e, no entanto, deve existir urn gabarito que permita achar para além do fato uma lógica profunda do desenrolar e da totalização dessa "pululação de destinos individuais", como diz Sartre. Todas as filosofias da história perceberam esse paradoxo, e cada uma procurou responder a ele segundo seus meios".

The philosophies of history, until today, have not been able to explain the transformations and at the same time to bring them into line with an interpretative system applicable to the known history. Concrete history, says Helene Vedrine, opens up for diversity, for the unexpected, for sudden mutations, and yet there must be a template for finding beyond the fact a deep logic of the unrolling and totalization of this "borns individual destinations", as Sartre says. All the philosophies of history have perceived this paradox, and each sought to respond to it by its means.
