Contraceptive methods use among nursing academic from a private university in Londrina city, Parana, Brazil

Resumo

Objective: to describe the academic knowledge of nursing in relation to the use of contraceptive methods. Methods: descriptive study from quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 200 academic students in nursing. The research was conducted during May-June 2008. For data collection was used a semi-structured in the form of a questionnaire, divided into two parts the first containing questions related to the characterization of academics and the second part related to the use of contraceptive methods the same. Results: after collecting and analyzing the results it was observed that the nursing scholars have known about the use of contraceptive methods. Among the academics interviewed 135 (67.5%) had their first sexual intercourse between 15 to 17 years of age. Since 107 (53.5%) used some method of contraception in sexual intercourse. However on the use of some form in their last sexual encounter 90 (45%) used and 92 (46%) not used. Conclusion: what we have to show that a significant number of nursing scholars have knowledge about the existence and use of contraceptive methods, but do not use in their sexual practices.
