LECgeo film club: the film club experience in geography and the development of geographical thinking

This paper seeks to understand the world of images through the film club experience at Cineclube LECgeo, located at the Federal University of Pernambuco. The experience of watching films and debating them fosters the geographical imagination to the point where we find ourselves in a game of positions between the visible and metaphorical fields. At school, based on law 13.006/2014, in which each Brazilian school must show two hours of Brazilian audiovisual production per month, the mediation between the competences and skills of the BNCC positions the teacher in the position of making access to knowledge a pleasurable and humane exercise by respecting the capacities of each student. In this sense, the development of geographical reasoning through the mediation of film makes it possible to go through the images of cinema and discover oneself as a subject and a professional. In order to do this, we provide a brief history of the creation and organisation of LECgeo Film Club sessions as a methodological proposal for understanding geographical space. Finally, we discuss the role of the image in the construction of geographical reasoning, where the sharing of sensitivities through the aesthetic and political assumptions of the subjects is necessary for doing geography.
