Hegel, the Hegelians, Marx and the German Romantism: the aesthetic heritage in the critique of the fragmentation of modern life

Abstract

The following article aims to analyze the importance of the romantic aesthetic formulations – particularly as they appear among the Jena romantics – and its impact on the work of Hegel and thinkers that operate under his influence. Romanticism is a well-known manner of understanding modernity which bestows on us cultural imperatives such as the need to analyze the human fragmentation, existential poverty, and alienation as key characteristics of industrial culture, as well as demands the overcoming of these problems – through an investment on the plenitude of being human – as a philosophical agenda with significant political implications. Moreover, the relevance of the theme for the constitution of a critical sociological tradition seems clear, as the work of the young Marx would testify.

Jonatas Ferreira, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco

Possui graduação em Economia pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1984), mestrado em Sociologia pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1993), doutorado em Sociologia - Lancaster University (1998), pós-doutorado em Sociologia na Universidade de Lisboa. Atualmente é Professor Associado da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. Tem experiência na área de Sociologia, com ênfase em Ciência e Tecnologia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: corpo, biotecnologia, inovação tecnológica, tecnologia e sociologia.
