Abstract

Há exatamente vinte anos, o nosso homenageado de hoje é expurgado desta Universidade pelo movimento da classe exploradora/ militares brasileiros aliados ao capit~l internacional. O pavor de que a emersão das camadas da classe popular,
que se verifica no Brasil, particularmente em Pernambuco, destrua seus antigos privilégios, leva aquelas parcelas da população brasileira a eliminar uma das experiências que efetivamente começa a construir a democracia neste país, o movimento de classes que aqui se instalava naquele momento. Certamente
que perpassado de inúmeras ambiguidades como sói acontecer com todos os movimentos históricos.
