This article, considering the discussions about the concepts of nation, identity and culture, analyses the short stories Canto IX: caderno de turismo and Canto XVI: Yamami, from the book Contos Negreiros (2005) by Marcelino Freire. The analysis, besides considering literary aspects, discusses the idea of tourism and, from this, the concepts of nation and identity. It takes as theoretical contribution texts of Renan (1882), Bhabha (1998), Hugo Achugar (2006) and Hutche on (1991). The theme of tourism is worked differently in both short stories and presents subjects from different realities, revealing plural views of the Brazilian nation and identity.References
