The specificities of brazilian high school, law nº 13.415 and school geography: a necessary debate

The Brazilian high school has been provoking extensive debates in educational scenario. This stage presents a series of problems that have not been overcome yet and that need to be discussed, and, because of that, we are witnessing a “reform of the high school”. In this sense, the objective of this article is to discuss some of the problems that are present in the high school, reflecting its challenges in contemporary times, in addition of seeking to understand the role of Geography in this new educational context of high school implemented by the Law nº 13.415/2017. Bibliographic researches about high school and an analysis of the recent Law nº 13.415 were carried out in order to conduct a critical analysis on this topic. Questionnaires and interviews were also applied with teachers and students, aiming to understand their perspectives regarding these recent restructurings in high school stage. It was found that there are a series of difficulties that this stage needs to face today, and that Law nº 13.415, made official under the justification of minimizing some of these problems, ended up not satisfactorily corresponding the wishes of a significant part of education professionals, as well as part of students who also fear some of its measures.
