The aim of this research was to investigate the presence of colonial and Eurocentric views in 8th grade geography textbooks, seeking to understand how these materials present colonization and the peoples and regions colonized by European nations. Using a decolonial theoretical and methodological approach, the qualitative study included a literature review and textbook analysis. Three collections were analyzed: Teláris Essencial: Geography (2022), Jornadas: Novos Caminhos: Geografia (2022) and Araribá Conecta: Geografia (2022). These books were chosen because they are part of the National Book and Teaching Material Program (PNLD) and are among the most widely adopted by public schools in Paraná, according to a report by the State Department of Education (SEED, 2024). The results indicate the predominance of Eurocentric narratives that downplay the impacts of colonization and emphasize Latin America's economic dependence. Colonization is treated neutrally, disregarding its structural violence. The conclusion is that there is an urgent need to reformulate the prescribed curriculum and textbooks in order to promote critical education about the processes generated by colonial power in socio-spatial organization and social relations.
