Abstract

O presente trabalho apresenta resultados possibilitados pelo programa de extensão da Universidade Estadual da Região Tocantina do Maranhão. Buscou-se enquanto objetivo principal, apresentar e dialogar sobre o papel da extensão universitária enquanto importante mecanismo na contribuição de processos de ressocialização no sistema prisional brasileiro por meio do ensino de Geografia. No processo, foram utilizadas linguagens audiovisuais, em especial o cinema como mecanismo de ensino de temas importantes da geografia. As atividades foram realizadas na Unidade Prisional de Ressocialização de Imperatriz – MA. Os resultados reiteram o papel da educação como ferramenta fundamental no processo de ressocialização e apontam para o maior alcance do ensino quando se utiliza mecanismos mais atraentes para o estudante.
