Abstract

The work Towards a gender nonconforming and anti-colonial redistribution of violence!, by Jota Mombaça, presents criticisms to the culture of violence elaborated and consolidated historically by Brazilian society and directed at poor people, black people, women and transgenders, in counterpoint to the perennial white privilege maintained with the institutional support of the State and guaranteed by the Police. The essay was published by the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, as a result of the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo – Incerteza Viva, held in 2017. In a perspective of denunciation, the work discusses quantitative data and violent actions against black and poor people, especially when these are women and transgender. It also problematizes the power structure, from its organization, development and maintenance to its institutionalization, which strongly impacts the production of different kinds of violence.
