The historical process of cotton and sisal, withdrawal and indiscriminate use of firewood and charcoal, intensive grazing land in semiarid region causes environmental degradation. This work aimed to study the degradation using digital processing techniques and spatio-temporal analysis of land cover. Using GIS techniques and satellite images of medium resolution could be generated vegetation index image and through a space-time analysis of ground cover, identify and assess the main causes and consequences of degradation. It was observed that ran a vegetation recovery class semi-thin and dense with increased 0.49% to 21.01%, by inserting the algaroba and the abandonment of land, respectively. There was a decrease in area of the lower class of degradation in 11.42% and severe in the moderate 10.06%, there was an increase in class moderate degradation, caused by the removal of firewood and the abandonment of land, respectively.
