Situações em que as pessoas têm que se refugiar devido às mudanças climáticas estão se tornando cada vez mais frequentes na mídia. No Semiárido, local particularmente sensível a este fenômeno, a migração tampouco é recente, remontando ao tempo do Brasil colônia, ou até à Pré-História brasileira. No Nordeste, os registros sobre secas são antigos, forçando o deslocamento das comunidades afetadas. Este trabalho tem por objetivos discutir os aspectos fundamentais relacionados à variabilidade climática, entender o conceito e as classes de refugiados ambientais e como as mudanças climáticas afetam a vida destes, em especial no Semiárido brasileiro, provocando fluxos migratórios em direção aos grandes centros urbanos e quais são os impactos econômicos, sociais, ambientais e urbanos para a região e o país.
A B S T R A C T
Situations where people have to take shelter due to climate change are becoming increasingly frequent in the media. In Semiarid, a local particularly sensible to this phenomenon, the migration is neither recent, back to the time of Colonial Brazil or even to Brazilian Prehistory. In Northeast, the register about droughts are antique, forcing the displacement of the affected communities. This work has the objective to discuss the fundamental aspects related to climate variability, understand the concept and the environmental refugees classes and how climate changes affect their lives, especially in Brazilian Semiarid, provoking migratory flows in direction to the great urban centres and which are the economic, social, environmental and urban impacts to the region and to the country.
