In the year 2010, the period among the months from June to September was marked by a drought period, particularly in the central north region of Paraná State. The low air humidity associated with low rainfall indices recorded for these months led to the hypothesis that the weather conditions that prevailed during this period could have influenced the occurrence and worsening of fires. To conduct this research we analyzed, during the years 2009 and 2010, the behavior of three climate elements, namely: relative humidity, precipitation and insolation. The year 2009 was used as parameter of comparison, since this year do not presented in the months from June to September, climatic characteristics similar to those given in the same period in 2010. These elements were correlated with the monthly amount of environmental fires fought by the 1st Subgrouping of Fire-fighter (SGB) of Maringá. It is concluded that, in the period among the months from June to September 2010, the occurrence of fires recorded a number, approximately, 287% higher, compared to the same period of 2009, proving that the climatic conditions that marked this period favored the aggravation of these events.
