This study aimed the validation of the estimated energy balance provided by S-SEBI algorithm over a heterogeneous region (covered by Cerrado and sugar cane), using micrometeorological data and the output from SEBAL for an intercomparison. The modifications in the atmospheric parameters provoked by the deforestation were analyzed as well. Were used, as input for the algorithms, seven TM- Landsat 5 images, in the orbit 220 and point 75, generated in February 22, April 11, May 29, June 14, August 01 and November 21, 2005. They contain the studied sites, situated in the municipality of Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, in São Paulo state. The results showed that both algorithms perform similar and relative good estimates for net radiation. In the case of latent and sensible heat fluxes, the algorithms do not show dexterity in estimate them and differ greatly when intercompared. S-SEBI has proved itself as a useful tool in the aforementioned context; it should be emphasized that both algorithms were developed for using in arid or semi-arid areas, what reflects the difficulties inherent in the implementation of the energy balance estimation in heterogeneous areas.
