SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF FOOD AND NUTRITIONAL INSECURITY IN BRAZIL

Hunger in Brazil is a historical problem, marked by a decrease and increase in the number of people who have experienced this reality. The objective f this study is to describe the spatial distribution of food and nutrition insecurity in the five macro-regions of Brazil. This is an ecological, multiple-group, exploratory study. For the construction of the database, food security supplements from the National Household Sample Survey were used, with the 27 federative units as units of analysis, for the years 2004, 2009 and 2013. For spatial analysis, the Index of Moran Local under univariate analysis. Food and nutrition insecurity shows a decrease in its indicators, especially between 2009 and 2013. The states that had the highest food insecurity rates are concentrated in the North and Northeast regions; the opposite occurs in most states in the Center regions. -West, South and Southeast. With regard to spatial autocorrelation, the formation of clusters and outliers with positive spatial strength is observed. Food insecurity decreased between 2004 and 2013, demonstrating the strong action of programs and public policies linked to the axis of hunger in the analyzed period.
