Climatological Norms and the Effects of Climate Changes on Brazilian Capitals

Over the years, changes in climatic patterns have been recorded at different temporal and spatial scales. Alterations in thermal regimes, as well as the occurrence of extreme weather events, are noticeable globally and regionally and vary according to the peculiarities of each region. Understanding whether the climatic patterns of certain regions have changed is fundamental for mitigating adverse events. This article aims to analyze the climatological norms of the capitals of Brazil over the years, with the purpose of identifying changes in air temperature. The methodology adopted for the study of climatological norms involved trend analysis using the nonparametric Mann‒Kendall test at the 5% significance level. These results indicate that the more research conducted at the local and regional scales, the better the mitigation process for these climate change effects and the better the direction for decision-making and adaptation processes.
