Justifications to revolt: The illegitimacy of the royal power in the Preciso manifesto

The purpose of this article is to analyze the arguments that question the legitimacy of the Crown of Portugal on the captaincy of Pernambuco presented in the Preciso manifesto, made by the rebels of the Pernambucan Revolt of 1817. It is possible to identify that the arguments were in part based in corporatist paradigm of power and society although the individualist paradigm has guided all social reflection since the second half of the previous century. This ascertainment allows us to point out permanences and perceive the experience of the passage from one paradigm to another by the people of Pernambuco.References
