Este artigo pretende discutir os padrões sócio-econômicos das mulheres que ingressavam no Convento da Ajuda no Rio de Janeiro, comparando-os ao perfil das mulheres pertencentes aos segmentos da elite da sociedade colonial. Depois disso, analisa os aspectos institucionais da vida na clausura, focalizando também alguns indícios de ruptura das normas regulares. Por fim, dedica-se a investigar indícios de devoção religiosa entre as freiras da Ajuda.
This article intends to discuss socioeconomic patterns of women who entered the Convent of Ajuda in Rio de Janeiro, comparing them to the women’s profile belonging to segments of the elite of colonial society. After that, analyzes the institutional aspects of life in the cloister, focusing also some evidence of disruption of regular rules. Finally, dedicated to investigate evidence of religious devotion among the nuns of Ajuda.
