Abstract

Entre os anos de 1630 e 1654, a Companhia das Índias Ocidentais (West-Indische Compagnie, ou WIC) contou com o serviço de milhares de homens para mover uma guerra de conquista, expansão e manutenção de parte do Brasil. Apesar de muitos pesquisadores terem se dedicado ao estudo do período histórico chamado de Brasil Neerlandês e feito pesquisas sobre uma ampla variedade de temas, a história da gente alistada na Europa para o serviço de guerra da WIC continua desconhecida. O objetivo deste artigo é preencher essa grande lacuna na historiografia sobre o Brasil Neerlandês e oferecer elementos para um melhor entendimento desse período histórico, bem como mostrar como esses recrutados estavam inseridos em um circuito mais amplo de migrações atlânticas.
