Abstract
Esse artigo pretende analisar a importância dos portos da antiga capitania de Pernambuco bem como da navegação fluvial em rios do nordeste oriental. Entendemos que o papel do porto do Recife e da navegação fluvial foram determinantes no processo de fixação batava no Brasil.
This article aims to show how important were the harbour of Recife as well as the fluvial navigation during the Dutch ocupation of Pernambuco. We understand also that both aspects presented above (Recife’s harbour and fluvial navigation) were the most important mean in the Dutch setlement process.
