Journey to Brazil: production and circulation among the European public of the 19th century

This article aims to approach the production and reception of narrative Travels in Brazil, from the Prussian naturalist Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied, who scanned Brazil between the years 1815-1817. During these years, the noble traveler collected a multitude of materials and information about fauna and flora, and Brazilian society, especially indigenous peoples. After returning to Europe, the traveler systematized all these data and spread them among the expert and layperson public, releasing the work Travels in Brazil. This narrative in five years has been edited and translated into different languages. However, flipping through the pages of the work, you can check for interferences and changes in its content between the various editions, whether in verbal or visual narrative, thus helping to form a fuzzy picture of nineteenth-century Brazil.
