This paper analyses the forms of sociability unrolled in Pernambuco urban centers in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries. Based on official documents and on the brotherhoods registers, the paper tries to describe the sociability forms established in Olinda and Recife, specifically studying institutions such as the religious brotherhoods and the ‘corporações de ofício’, but also the public ceremonies that took place on the sugar cities’ streets. The methodology emphasizes the concepts of sociability and representation.
