Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original, unpublished, and it is not under consideration for publication by any other journal; otherwise, a justification must be provided in "Comments to the Editor."
  • The submission file must be in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or RTF format.
  • URLs for references should be provided where possible.
  • Texts must be justified, typed with 1.5 spacing, using Times New Roman, font size 12. Italics should be used instead of underlining (except for URLs); figures and tables must be inserted within the text, not at the end of the document as appendices.
  • The text must adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Guidelines for Authors on the journal’s "About".
  • For submissions to peer-reviewed sections (e.g., articles), the instructions available in Ensuring blind peer review must be followed.

Author Guidelines

Guidelines for Authors

1-Tópicos Educacionais, published with a semiannual periodicity by the Education Center at the Federal University of Pernambuco, accepts submissions directly or indirectly related to education, including from reflections, theoretical studies, and research. All submissions must be original. The journal also accepts translations of texts initially published in languages other than Portuguese, provided they meet the journal’s evaluation criteria and indicate the original publication details.

2-Tópicos Educacionais does not charge article processing or submission fees.

3-Articles submitted to the journal must be exclusively under evaluation by Tópicos Educacionais and should be submitted via the journal’s system.

4-Once an article is published in Tópicos Educacionais it cannot be republished elsewhere for 12 months.

5-Articles will be selected based on the journal’s editorial focus, originality, and the consistency of their content.

6-Articles submitted to the journal will undergo an initial format check. Subsequently, the text will be reviewed by two peer reviewers in the specific thematic area (either editorial board members or ad hoc reviewers). The review outcomes can be:

a) approved,
b) approved with required revisions, or
c) rejected.

In the case of differing opinions between reviewers, a third party will evaluate the text. Authors whose texts are approved with restrictions will have 30 days to make the necessary changes. Failure to meet this deadline will result in rejection of the text.

7-After acceptance for publication, the work will be returned to the authors for corrections and formatting adjustments.

8-The original text must include a header with: the title in Portuguese (capitalize only the first letter, except for proper nouns, bold, Times New Roman, size 14, centered), and a subtitle in lowercase (except for proper nouns). The title should be no longer than 11 words, followed by the abstract.

9-Texts submitted for review must have between 35,000 and 60,000 characters (including spaces) and be formatted for A4 paper, including bibliographic references, notes, and tables.

10-Articles must include an abstract in both Portuguese and English (800-1,000 characters, including spaces) and a maximum of five keywords in both languages. Titles must also be translated into English.

11-Texts must be justified, typed in 1.5 spacing, in Times New Roman font, size 12. Quotes longer than three lines should begin in a new paragraph, in size 11, without quotation marks, and indented.

12-Any reference that could compromise anonymity during the review process must be removed.

13-Texts must be saved in Word or compatible format. Emphasis should be applied using italics.

14-Citations must follow the format (Author's Surname, year).

15-Bibliographic references should only include texts cited in the article and must comply with ABNT standards.

16-Texts that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered for review.
