Sexuality education and teenage pregnancy in school education

Abstract

This paper reports on a study about the education in sexualities arguing about the necessity to insert contents of this subject in basic education curriculum. By the perspective on teenage pregnancy in highschool, the research took place in a state public school in the city of Araraquara (SP), establishing as participants: students, parents or mothers regularly enrolled. Data management and analysis were established through a questionnaire to identify and characterize the knowledge they have about pregnancy and sexuality in adolescence. The analysis of the data identified 6 participants who brought information about how this theme was approached during their formative process in basic education. The main result of the research indicate that there is an absence in relation to the theme of teenage pregnancy. Thus it suggests the importance of this curricular content to be inserted in the school curriculum once the lack of it jeopardizes the socialization of scientific knowledge as a way to promote an emancipatory education in sexualities.
