This study, through a State of Knowledge literature review, analyzes theses and dissertations that investigate students' beliefs and attitudes toward mathematics. Of the 48 studies initially mapped in the BDTD and CAPES databases, only five met the inclusion criteria, revealing a scarcity of research focused on the student perspective. The studies analyzed address different educational contexts and highlight emotional, sociocultural factors, and previous experiences as significant influences on students' relationship with mathematics. Negative beliefs, demotivation, and emotional detachment are recurrent, but the importance of bonding with teachers and valuing more humane and contextualized pedagogical practices is also noted. The analysis highlights theoretical and methodological gaps, especially in high school, and reinforces the need for educational initiatives that promote the redefinition of students' beliefs and attitudes, making mathematics teaching more inclusive and meaningful.
