The Critical Revolution that Geography and its teaching experienced during the 1970s and 1980s consolidated the understanding that the discipline must be committed to developing a distinctive mode of thought (or reasoning, depending on the author). This approach enables students to engage in complex and critical analyses and interpretations of the spatial dimensions of socio-spatial phenomena, so that they not only describe the location of facts and events but also comprehend why they occur in some places rather than others. The objective of the present text is to provide an overview of the development of this concept through the contributions of prominent Brazilian geography scholars, and to reflect on the possibilities of expanding this framework from a decolonial perspective in School Geography through multiliterate practices. This work takes the form of a bibliographic review on geographic thought/reasoning, combined with a theoretical proposition regarding the potential of decolonial thinking and multiliterate practices. The goal is to consolidate a mode of geographic thought in which the foundational concepts, representations, and languages allow the spatialities and subjectivities of subordinated groups to coexist alongside dominant ones. In doing so, it aims to contribute to the formation of individuals capable of an autonomous interpretation of the world, informed by who they are and where they come from.
