New Socioterritorial Dynamics in the Rural Area of União Dos Palmares: An Analysis of the Countryside-City and Rural-Urban Relations Established by the Zumbi Dos Palmares Apiary

Abstract

In recent decades, the discussion about the connection between the countryside and the city, as well as between the rural and urban environments, has become a topic of great importance in the humanities and social sciences. These two spatial dimensions have undergone significant transformations, giving rise to new socio-territorial dynamics that require a review of the concepts of rural and urban. In the current context, marked by the technical-scientific-informational era, the interactions between the countryside and the city are directed both toward the debate about the growing urbanization of society, driven by technological and scientific advances in rural areas, strengthening the links between agriculture and industry, and toward the process of renewed appreciation of the countryside. This study aims to examine the relationships between the countryside and the city, as well as between the rural and the urban, established by Apiário Zumbi dos Palmares, with the aim of identifying the new socio-spatial dynamics that emerge in the rural space of the municipality of União dos Palmares. The research adopts a qualitative and quantitative approach, based on bibliographical research, field observation, application of questionnaires to workers and residents of the studied area, in addition to semi-structured interviews to compose the study database. The research findings indicate that the Zumbi dos Palmares Apiary builds, over time, a set of interactions in the rural-urban and rural-urban context, promoting a new territorial configuration through a dialectical dynamic in the rural palmarino space. Thus, this study proves to be highly relevant to the geography studies.
