Climate and Weathering the Formation of the Soils in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil
ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to determine the influence of climate on the variation of the type of weathering and on the formation of the soils in Rio Grande do Sul State – Brazil. Three numerical models were used to determine weathering characteristics. Data of average annual temperature and average total annual rainfall from 1931 to 1960 from 41 meteorological stations of the 8° Brazilian National Service (8° DISME) were used. Results showed that for the weathering models, soils of this State are exposed to climatic conditions of hot temperate climates, which favor chemical weathering and the conditions for alteration and lixiviation typical of the monossialitization zone.
Keywords: rock, temperature, rainfall.
