ABSTRACT: Given the need to obtain information related to the microclimate and the influence of vegetation within an urban perimeter on the quality of life of its inhabitants, we defined the Leaf Area Index (IAF) as the biophysical parameter to be studied in this research. Considering that Remote Sensing is a low-cost and easy-to-acquire technology, which can be obtained free of charge via databases available on the Internet, we will verify whether sensing can be used as a reliable source for surveying the Leaf Area Index (LAI). This study aims to analyze the dynamics of vegetation within an urban park using data generated by remote sensing to analyze the IAF to enable the preservation and planning of vegetation in urban spaces. To this end, it was decided to use Landsat-8 images, whose target on the Earth's surface was the Mãe Bonifácia Park in Cuiabá-MT. As a comparison parameter, leaf area index data collected in the field at 30 georeferenced points within Parque Mãe Bonifácia between October 2014 and September 2015 were used. From the data analyzed, it was possible to conclude that the environment has been undergoing constant changes due to human action.
Keywords: Remote sensing; Urban Spaces; IAF.
