The identification of of Susceptible to Desertification Areas (SDA) in Brazil has been adopted by decision-makers in Public Policies and in academic research in the approach to Land Degradation and Desertification in the Northeastern Semiarid Region. Considering that the SDA correspond to the semi-arid and subhumid areas, and the surrounding areas, we consider the semi-arid region of Ceará for study. This article made a brief reconstitution of the spatial analysis of the ASD between the years 1992 to 2015. A comparison of five cartographic bases and estimates of affected areas by desertification resulted in a spatial representation of the most critical areas and the configured nuclei in Ceará.
Keywords: susceptible to desertification areas, mapping, semi-arid areas, Ceará.
