The release of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the soil to the atmosphere is called ";;soil CO2 efflux";;, being an important source for the increase in greenhouse gases. The aim of this study is to evaluate the difference of CO2 emissions for a soybean / rice paddy rotation system in five different soil management treatments. These treatments were performed at the agro- ecological region of the Grandes Lagoas of Rio Grande do Sul, in the experimental field of the Experimental Station of Embrapa Clima Temperado, in order to quantify these emissions on different conditions, such as soil and air temperatures. To accomplish this work, data were used in five different treatments of flooded rice culture to determine the concentration of CO2 emitted by the soybean / rice paddy rotation system. The CO2 concentration data were collected in the same way for the year 2013- 2014, through the method of static closed chamber. The release of CO2 from the flooded rice crop had a well-defined relation with the soil and air temperature, being probably the main controller of the CO2 emission of the crop. Soil management has been showing a very well influence on the CO2 emissions of the rice crop, but more studies need to be done to verify the real influence of this practice.
Keywords: greenhouse effect; soil management; culture rotation.
