Resumen

Objective: to reflect on the relationship between the training and skills development in the teacher. Method: theoretical study, which directs the analysis to the issues of training and professional development and skills of the teacher. The literature revision was conducted in diverse databases such as VHL, EBSCO and MEDLINE by descriptors' nursing 'competency-based education', 'concept formation', and 'teacher'. Results: The formation is a relevant issue when in the perspective of training and teacher professional development as a process predominantly personal, continuous and systematic, which occurs throughout their career. This process should be structured according to the school as an area of ​​training and the enhancement of knowledge of the teacher. The skills are built through training and teaching practices, involving the teacher’s "know", "know-how" and "how to be", among other forms of characterization. Conclusion: The relationship between teacher’s training and skills development is assumed as an evidence according to various teachers' professional practice research studies, namely on their training and skills.
