This article aims to present a brief assessment of land credit settlements in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. In theProgramaNacional deCréditoFundiário(PNCF) (National Land Credit Program), land entry is done through classical commercial mediation: buyers and sellers. The literature on the subject reveals that the central objective of the PNCF is to deflate the political rise of social movements that struggle for land reform. The wide spatial disposition of these settlers in the territory confirms the strategic bias of deterrence present in the PNCF, as they have promoted the progressive paralysis of the state reform in theregion over the last years. Through quantitative researchon the database of theSistema deInformaçõesGerenciaisdoCréditoFundiário(SIG-CF)(Management Information System for Land Credit), we produced a general picture of the advance of neoliberalismin the field and its impact on the relations between the State and the peasantry.
