Precipitação no Sul do Brasil e sua Relação com Dados Paleoclimáticos (Rainfall in southern Brazil and its relationship with paleoclimatic data)

A paleoclimatologia estuda as condições climáticas que afetam o planeta em épocas anteriores à adoção de observações e registros sistemáticos e instrumentais, e para isso utiliza-se de registros paleoclimáticos encontrados na natureza. Através do estudo desses registros, é possível reconstruir as condições climáticas do passado em grandes escalas de tempo desta forma permitindo visualizar ciclos e padrões, que servem de base para projetar tendências de condições climáticas futuras, bem como anomalias. Esse estudo tem como objetivo comparar a variabilidade dos Isótopos Estáveis de 18O registrados em um testemunho de gelo do Nevado Illimani com as anomalias de precipitação na região Sul do Brasil. Para isso será necessário: (i) identificar padrões temporais da precipitação no Sul do Brasil; (ii) correlacionar os padrões de precipitação da região sul do Brasil com a variabilidade da razão isotópica de Oxigênio (δ18O) registrada no testemunho de gelo do Nevado Illimani, (iii) analisar a possibilidade de estimar a precipitação pretérita usando o δ18O. Os resultados encontrados mostram uma baixa correlação entre a variação dos isótopos de 18O do testemunho de gelo do Nevado Illimani com a variação temporal da precipitação no sul do Brasil. Fatores que controlam a variação do registro isotópico como localização da área fonte de umidade, efeito continentalidade, efeito altitude, efeito sazonalidade bem como os sistemas atmosféricos atuantes na região sul do Brasil explicam essa baixa correlação.
A B S T R A C T
The paleoclimatology studies the climatic conditions that affect the planet in earlier times to the adoption of observations and systematic and instrumental records, and it makes use of paleoclimatic records found in nature. Through the study of these records, it is possible to reconstruct the climate of the past conditions on large scales of time thus allowing you to see cycles and patterns, which are the basis for designing trends of future climate conditions and anomalies. This study aims to compare the variability of Stable Isotope 18O recorded in an ice core from Nevado Illimani, Bolívia, with precipitation anomalies in southern Brazil. This will require: (i) identify temporal patterns of rainfall in southern Brazil; (ii) correlating the southern region rainfall patterns in Brazil with the variability of the isotopic ratio of oxygen (δ18O) recorded in ice core from Nevado Illimani, (iii) examine the possibility of estimating the preterit precipitation using δ18O. The results show a low correlation between the variation of the 18O isotope of ice core from Nevado Illimani with the temporal variation of rainfall in southern Brazil. Factors that control the variation of the isotopic record as location of the moisture source area, continentality effect, altitude effect, seasonality effect and atmospheric systems active in southern Brazil explain this low correlation.
